Right, so I don’t like to do housework. I’m just going to put that out there! It’s the aspect of this adulthood malarkey I could happily do without. I’m getting better at doing it, but I’d much rather spend my time doing other things. I do, however, see the need for a good sort out once in a while, and that’s what I’ve been doing this month. It’s my pre-spring clean.
Out with the old, but not in with the new.
I’m also very aware that we don’t live in a mansion! We’re running the risk of outgrowing our house, but with no money to move into anything bigger for a few years. I need to downsize the amount of crap that I’m hoarding before there’s no room for me in my own home! eBay has helped with this in recent weeks. I’ve really learned the truth behind “one man’s trash is another’s treasure”. I’ve been selling DVDs, clothes and bags, and generally bits and bobs that I no longer wear or use. People will buy anything!
I had a brand new top still with that tags on, that I was sure would sell for a decent amount. Did it? Nope! I got £1.50 for it. It was a gorgeous top, in perfect condition and still available to buy from the website for £25! Yet I had to practically give it away. Flip that coin, and see that an old copy of Keeping Up with the Kardashians (don’t dare judge me for owning this) went for £10.50. I didn’t expect it to sell, but it did. The one thing it has taught me is to try and sell even the most unlikely of items. If you print the postage labels from home, it’s not too much of a hassle. This month I have made just over £200 just from posting my findings from the back of the wardrobe on eBay!
Granted, I’ve not exactly made my millions, but it’s nice to know I have £200 in my savings (yep- you read that right, I now have savings) that wouldn’t have been there had I not spent a bit of time sorting things out. It’s making me feel quite positive too. My wardrobe is shrinking- which is an excellent thing as I own too many items of clothing for one woman- and my house is less cluttered. This is making me feel more organised and less chaotic. It’s nice to fit all of my clothes in the wardrobe, and to have space on my bookshelf where my random DVD box sets were being stored.
Now I feel that people could drop round for a cuppa and I wouldn’t be embarrassed by the mess in the house (most rooms are sorted). However, don’t sit down for too long- you might just find yourself on eBay!
