When I was young and naive, I had strong convictions that I would never become a *gasp at the idea* make up snob. “Spending £20 on a mascara? Sod off!” or “I’ll always stick to Collection 2000. None of that expensive stuff for me!” were regular phases that would slip out of my mouth when we were to talk about make up. I couldn’t understand why my mum spent so much money on ESTÉE LAUDER, when you could buy the same products from Superdrug for next to nothing.
That all changed. I discovered MAC!
Loving a red lip, I had to try MAC Red, and my love affair began. I could wax lyrically about this perfect lipstick for hours, but I won’t. I’ll save that for another post!
I like to keep my day make up “barely there”. I don’t wear much make up to work, but if I’m going somewhere nice, like for a meal, I do like to wear my go-to natural look. I thought I’d explain my favourite MAC products that I use to achieve my favourite look.
After I’ve used a primer, I keep it simple by using the Mineralise Concealer in NW15 for the eye area (covering those dark circles perfectly). This is the best under-eye concealer that I’ve used- I think it’s even better than YSL Touché Éclat. It’s not as harsh a product with it being mineral based, and it seems to reflect light to make your eyes look brighter. It lasts for a long time too, as a little goes a long way. At £17.50, it is worth every penny when you think of cost per wear.
Having always suffered with quite bad acne breakouts, I try to avoid using heavy foundations on my face, other than for nights out or times when I need extra good coverage. As an alternative, I use the Select Cover Up liquid concealer (£15.50). A tiny amount covers the appearance of spots and scars really well, and gives me the confidence that I need.
I use the Mineralise Loose Powder Foundation (£25.50) in light for a light all over coverage. I love this as it doesn’t feel like I’m plastering anything on my face. Again, it helps with the appearance of acne without aggravating it at all. My “can’t be without” product. I love it!
On my eyes, after doing my brows using a non-MAC product (ssshhh!), I use the Liquid Eyeliner to define my lashes. It goes on smoothly, but subtly. I prefer a pen-style liner for a more dramatic look, but this is good for a more casual eye!
I put on two layers of the False Lashes mascara (£19). I like this as it doesn’t clump like others, and it’s relatively easy to remove. I think that it makes my lashes have a nice length and good volume. I’m not sure that it would be enough for a more dramatic look, but it’s fine for a daytime look.
I finish my look by working on my lips. I use a natural liner with the Coral Bliss Lipstick (£15.50) for colour, and add a little sheen using the Clear Lipglass (£14.50). This isn’t too sticky, and lasts for a long time, protecting the lipstick colour. The coral is quite natural, without it being too nude.
Spray on a make-up protector and you’re good to enjoy your day without having to worry about reapplying your make up. MAC is long-lasting and worth every penny! What brands do you rate for a natural day look?
