Ever have one of those days where you just can’t get to the gym, or to a class? Swimming is a no go? Some days I don’t physically have the time, or I can’t face staying up until 9pm to get to my cardio in. Some days I just don’t feel like going back out, once I’ve made tea and got Noah to bed. I can’t justify each of those days becoming a rest day, so what can I do?
Exercise at home- that’s what! Gone are the days of doing the same old fitness DVD (I think it’s time to give Davina a rest). Thanks to YouTube, there are literally thousands of different classes or routines that you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home. You can tailor make your own fitness regime- pick a little bit of weights training to pair with some dance cardio. Or try some Pilates or yoga? The choice is vast, and pretty much everything is high end and top quality.
Jillian Michaels (of the American hit Biggest Loser) is one of the best for pushing you and getting results. The 30 day shred is brutal, but effective. I’ve never been able to get past day 15- I can’t commit to doing it every day. However, for an alternative to leaving the house, I’d certainly recommend this! The fitness channel BeFit have loads of different workouts, and a vast array of Jillian Michaels workouts can be found here. They range from 10 minutes to 40 minutes, and have everything from “fat burning” routines to Cardio Kickboxing. My video of choice at the moment is her Kettlebells workout, level one. It’s super effective at strengthening not only your arms, but your core and legs. What surprised me the most is how much of a cardio workout I get from this too. She describes it as an “explosive” routine, and I’d agree with her on this. As with most of her videos, there are a number of options, one for beginners and one for the more advanced viewers. I’d really suggest that you give the Kettlebells workout a try; even if you don’t have a set of kettles, Dumbbells would work.
BeFit offer such a wide variety that I think it’s take a lot to get bored. Let me know what you think!
When you just fancy dancing your stress away, then try RefitRev! An American based company, they specialise in fun dance workouts with modern tracks. Their routines incorporate a range of dance styles and varying intensities. Their Shake It Off routine is so much fun, and boy does it get the heart going! With 185 videos, there are certainly enough routines to make sure you have a unique workout every time. 40 minutes of dancing will see you shedding the pounds, and also make you happier at the same time! For a bit of fun, give RefitRev a try. You will not regret it!
Blogilates is a YouTube Pilates channel. The instructor, Cassey Ho, is welcoming and talks you through the routines clearly. I particularly like the beginners video- it works your whole body, and stretches muscles you didn’t know needed stretched! Cassey has well over 300 videos on her channel and range from 10 minute “30 day challenges” to 30 minute workouts. There is something for every level of fitness on this channel. Pair her YouTube channel with her website for some fabulous tips and advice.
My final YouTube channel that I rate is FitnessBlender. Like with BeFit, this channel has videos on virtually all fitness routines. It boasts an impressive 450 videos- all of which offer full body workouts. The Fat Burning Cardio workout is a good place to start- and it’s not an easy choice. There are also workouts for specific muscle groups so you can target those problem areas. For a full and varied workout, subscribe to FitnessBlender.
