An irresistible desire to travel and to understand one’s very existence!
The idea of travelling has always appealed to me, be it visiting places off the beaten track, or staying closer to home and exploring our beloved Lake District. I’m not an avid traveller, by any means, but I have ambitions to see a lot of the world, and it is my goal to expose Noah to all of the wonderful (and some weird and whacky) places that this planet has to offer. As Noah gets older, Andy and I desperately want to take him on more unusual holidays, giving him the chance to experience what is on offer through quality vacations and trips. Taiwan, South Africa and New York are up there on our list (as well as the more mainstream trip to Flordia when he’s old enough to appreciate it), but my personal must see destination is California. Above any place on Earth, I dream to explore California, taking in the many mesmerising destinations that are contained in the Sunshine State.
Why California? The eclectic mix of the movie star pull of Los Angeles, the historic elements of San Francisco (Alcatraz, anyone?) and the freedom Big Sur and Route 1 will keep you busy for weeks. I would want to go to California for a month, hire a car, stay in cheap motels and take our time to travel down from San Francisco to San Diego. The appeal of the open road excites me an immeasurable amount. I couldn’t think of anything better than spending quality time with my boys, getting to know one of the most fascinating areas of the world.
Of course, I’d have to spend a decent amount of time in Los Angeles. The Universal Studios Hollywood tour would be on my list of must see attractions, seeing Hollywood from the inside. I hear that Runyon Canyon is an alternative way to view Hollywood, so would put on my hiking boots for this. Naturally, a spot of celebrity hunting would come into play, and Andy would naturally treat me to some shopping on Rodeo Drive!
An absolute must would be to go to Calabasas (the home of my favourite celebs, the Kardashians- don’t judge), so we would do this enroute to Santa Monica! Oh, and I couldn’t take Noah and Andy to California without squeezing in a trio to Anaheim. Since watching Saving Mr Banks, I’ve been desperate to visit the original home of Mickey, and all things Walt Disney!
South Bay would call out to us; the Ferris wheel on the Santa Monica Pier is screaming my name! This historic landmark has been thruster into the 21st Century with the installation of solar panels… You can have that fact for free!
Venice Beach is somewhere I’d happily allow to make me feel inadequate! It’s quirky and unique, and I’m confident that a visit to the home of Muscle Beach would be unforgettable. I could go on for hours about California, and why I want to visit, but I think you can see where I’m coming from!
